How to convert hours and minutes to decimal hours
Decimal hours = hours + (minutes ÷ 60). 8 hours 30 minutes = 8 + 0.50 = 8.50. To go the other way, keep the whole hours, multiply the fraction by 60: 0.75 × 60 = 45 minutes, so 8.75 is 8:45.
Timesheets multiply an hourly rate by a decimal. Minutes have to be divided by 60, not dropped in after a point.
| Clock | Decimal |
|---|---|
| 15 min | 0.25 |
| 20 min | 0.33 |
| 30 min | 0.50 |
| 45 min | 0.75 |
| 8:00 | 8.00 |
| 8:15 | 8.25 |
| 8:30 | 8.50 |
| 8:45 | 8.75 |
